I know, I know. We promised a blog almost a year ago. Welp… It’s here!
Sometimes life gets in the way for people in technology, and everyone else too. This post is impromptu and written at 1 am. I’m going to be writing some posts with Heather, that way we have a consistent blog being pushed out as well as our podcast, returning next week! (That’s a solid promise.)
Our upcoming Livestream a week from Sunday March 15th has me a little worried. We are going to be talking about some very controversial technology subjects that border on conspiracy. From NetNutrality to Advertising and how companies are tracking your data. (I’ll do a write up post stream to link info in a blog post with resources listed and linked if possible.) Hold your gasps and keep reading.
When we start talking about the giants in the business world as a small company, it can be intimidating. We aren’t malicious, just working to raise awareness and offer solutions to try and protect you, ourselves, our friends, and our family. We can’t even tell you what they are doing is “wrong” because it’s legal and CAN be very helpful, even if it may not be entirely moral. But, at what cost? What is your privacy worth? Roughly $250 according to Forbes. Well, at least your address. Facebook profits about $35 per user on average per user account on your data in 2019. That’s mortifying, yet worse still is that Adam Ruins Everything estimates at even less, a value of only $12 in 2016! Both of those figures come from Quartz linked below.
When we start talking about these topics, and we alert people to what is really happening with their data, it can come with some responsibility to you, dear reader as well as our team. We have a responsibility to you to offer qualified information that is no holds barred while maintaining good standing in the business community. Fortunately, we still don’t have a lot of the latter yet. When you tune in, read, or listen to our podcasts, please. Please don’t just take our word for it. Follow up on our research and let us know if we have made any errors so we can correct them ASAP. New information is constantly being released and laws are ever changing. States like California, and the EU have passed privacy protection laws that require companies to make your data available to you as well as the ability to delete it. We will be going over where and how to utilize that information, even if you are not in California or the EU on our livestream. So be sure to tune in!
These and many more topics will be addressed. Stay tuned for more info!
